First Look, for lower mid-market private equity, search funds and family offices investing directly

Know which advisers send you what, with every teaser logged and answered.

Teasers reach partners’ own inboxes as well as a shared deals address. First Look reads the ones in the inboxes you agree, logs each with its figures as stated, writes a five-line memo against your criteria and drafts the reply to the adviser for your approval. Each month it shows which advisers send you what, how much of it fits, and who has gone quiet.

We take on a small number of deal teams at a time.

What you get

Nothing lost, nothing left unanswered.

  1. 1

    A monthly adviser report

Which advisers send you what, how much of it fits your criteria, and who has gone quiet. Counted from the deals it logged, not estimated.

  2. 2

    Every deal logged

Each teaser in the agreed inboxes is logged with the company, sector, size figures as stated, the adviser and the timetable. It writes to your CRM if it has an API, as Affinity, Salesforce and DealCloud do, or to a shared sheet.

  3. 3

    A five-line first-look memo

What it is, the numbers given, what looks attractive, what to question, and the next step. Figures are copied from the teaser. It does not work out margins, multiples or growth, and it does not score the deal.

  4. 4

    Questions against your criteria

Built from your own criteria: sector, size, geography, ownership, deal type. Plus the information a first look needs that the teaser does not give.

  5. 5

    A reply to every adviser

A pass, a request for the NDA, or questions, drafted in your words for your approval. Nothing goes without a person approving it, and you can keep replies to the advisers you know best for yourself.

Your data

Teasers first. Memoranda only under your agreements.

Where it runs
On n8n, a workflow tool, and Claude, the AI model made by Anthropic, both through accounts in your firm’s name. We recommend Amazon’s AI service in your own region, so the data is processed where you need it. Neither provider uses your data to train its models.
What it reads
Version one reads teasers and deal emails. Information memoranda only once your NDAs and our data agreement allow it.
Past teasers
Used only to test it, inside your own accounts, and deleted on the date written in the data agreement.
What it never does
It makes no investment decisions and scores nothing. It drafts; your team decides and approves.

How it works

Four steps.

  1. 20 minutes

    A call

How deals reach you, what you track today, and what your criteria are. If it fits, a written proposal the same day.

  2. Before the build starts

    Your checks

An NDA, the data agreement, and access to the agreed inboxes inside your own Microsoft or Google account.

  3. About four weeks

    Build and test

Tested on teasers you have already seen, with a short weekly check-in. A week side by side, then the checks we agreed in writing.

  4. Every month after

    In use

Your team approves every reply. We look after it and send the adviser report every month.

Terms

Agreed in writing before the build starts.

Running costs
The n8n account and the AI account are in your name and billed to you. We estimate them for your volume before you sign.
Payment
Half when you sign. Half when it passes the checks we agreed.
If it falls short
If it does not pass the checks we agreed in writing, we fix it at our cost. If we cannot make it pass within 20 working days, you can stop and we refund the build fee.
Who owns what
You own your data, the outputs, your rules and templates, and the set-up in your accounts. We keep our reusable starting template, the parts that are not specific to you, and give you a permanent licence to use it.
Leaving
Cancel the monthly fee on 30 days’ notice. You keep everything in your accounts, with the runbook and a handover session.
Who does the work
We build it and run it. Everyone with access to your data, and the software it runs on, is named in the data agreement.

Questions

What deal teams ask first.

Teasers come to our partners, not a deals inbox.

That is how most advisers send them. It can read a shared deals address and the inboxes of the partners who agree, and log each teaser once even when two people receive it.

Our associates already log every teaser.

Then the logging is done. What is left is the monthly adviser report and a reply to every adviser. The call shows whether there is a gap worth filling. If there isn’t, we say so.

Our associates already use ChatGPT on teasers.

Then they know what it does with one document. This is about every deal, every time: logged in one place, every adviser answered, and a monthly view of who sends you what.

Our memoranda are under NDA.

Version one reads teasers and deal emails. Memoranda come in only once your NDAs and our data agreement allow it, and always through your own accounts.

Will it decide which deals we look at?

No. It lays out the facts as stated and the questions against your criteria. Your team decides.
